Who can be baptised?
We welcome everyone for baptism, from infants to adults. In the Anglican tradition, we believe baptism is a gift of God's grace available to all.
Do I need to be a member of the church?
You do not need to be a formal member to begin the process. We hope that through this journey, you will find a spiritual home with us.
What happens during the preparation?
Preparation usually involves a few informal meetings with our priest to talk about the meaning of baptism and the vows you or the godparents will make.
When do baptisms take place?
Baptisms normally happen during our regular Sunday service at 10:30 am, as it is a celebration shared with the whole church community.
Is there a fee for Baptism?
There is no fee for the sacrament of baptism. It is a gift of the church. Some families choose to make a donation to support our community's work.
What happens during a baptism?
During the baptism part of the service, there is a liturgy that involves affirming your Christian beliefs, after which you will be invited to the baptismal font. Baptism at St Matthew's involves sprinkling with water, not full immersion.
